Sometimes just accepting that I'm not in a reading mood helps me move on. IF it has been awhile I challenge myself to read the first chapter of multiple books (usually from my library loan stash) and then decided which ones I want to keep reading.
Totally agree that much MG fiction feels longer than necessary these days! Earlier this year, Allison Tait compiled a list of 60+ short MG novels on her blog — all under 240 pages. There's also an article on the YKNR blog (for paid subscribers) about this trend. (Is it a trend? I feel it may soon become one, especially since publishers keep talking about how much the price of paper has increased!)
Re getting out of a reading rut, we're currently on a five-month overseas trip and I pretty much didn't read for the first month. But now I'm finding myself drawn to non-fiction like parenting/ lifestyle/ nutrition books... which I think is because I feel like this trip is a bit of a reset. It's a great point that reading serves different purposes at different times in our lives.
Ooooh I'll have to check out that list! Thank you for the suggestion. Interesting that you are finding yourself drawn to that type of book, are there any that you've come across that you'd recommend? I totally agree that sometimes a reset is exactly what we need, how great that you can do it while overseas! Thank you for reading my post, and for your comment. And safe travels!

This is a great idea! A little book tasting. Thanks for reading and commenting, Sally!
I'm absolutely going to try the ten-minute challenge when I'm in one of my (many) reading slumps! This is brilliant 😍
Thanks Maddy! Appreciate the comment and good luck with your reading slump(s)!

Happy reading to you, whatever form it takes!
