Know a kid who just can't find the right book? Here are a few suggestions to get them reading.
I’m back this week with a couple of new recommendations for specific genres of reluctant reading: shame, rigidity, and boredom.
I really love writing these posts, because I’ve dealt with everything from teenagers who claim they have never finished a book in their life, to kids in deep, dark reading ruts that they just can’t seem to climb their way out of, and desperate parents and guardians who are willing to try anything to help. The challenge of finding the right book is enormously satisfying.

Something for: a quiet middle grader whose mates have started telling them reading isn’t cool. They still want to read, but are reluctant to pick up books in sight of other kids. They tend to like quiet stories rather than action, adventure, etc.
