I recently had a question from an English teacher friend of mine who has started working at a new school for disengaged students. But, it’s also a question I tend to get a lot, especially in regards to books for teenagers with low reading levels, that won’t make them feel ‘singled-out’ or like they’re reading books for ‘babies’.

As always, I’d love to hear your input. Can you help me answer this question? If so, please comment below with any further suggestions for great titles that fit the bill.


I’m looking for recommendations for my Year 9 and 10 students. I need some engaging books that are accessible to low literacy levels (mid-primary) but don’t feel too childish. Graphic novels, perhaps? But also some non-fiction.
