Introducing... the I Read A Lot Book Club!
Where we all read one great children's book a month and chat about it online.
My partner recently introduced me to this book club platform called Fable. It fosters a social environment for readers, enabling them to connect with others who share their interests, participate in book clubs, and engage in discussions about what they’re reading.
Like everyone else, I’m time poor, and in the past have struggled to commit to a book club. But, this one is completely online and flexible, allowing participants to take part whenever it suits them—on the train to work, or at 3am while breastfeeding.
I’m on board! And I hope you will be, too.
The I Read A Lot Book Club will encourage everyone here to pick up at least one great children’s book a month, and talk about it with fellow readers and kid lit enthusiasts.
As I said, this is a no-pressure, when-you-can kind of a book club, and all completely online. I hope you’ll join the conversation about the books we read in your own time.
All the choices will be newly released Australian books, with everything from picture books to junior fiction and middle grade, and of course, young adult. Maybe some non-fiction and graphic novels, too! And a whole heap of genres. A mixed bunch.
Please join the I Read A Lot Book Club by clicking here.
(You will need to download the Fable app to do so.)
Our first book is The Surface Trials by HM Waugh. Please pick it up at your local independent bookshop or from your local public/school library.
We will read this one from now until 24 July (when I’ll announce the next one), so you’ll have about a month to let the group know what you think. Feel free to comment on the “kickoff” page as you read, and then put any final thoughts on the “reflection” page. Spoilers are okay, but only on the “reflection” page—so don’t open that one up until you’ve finished reading!
I chose The Surface Trials as our first book because I think it is a really fun and engaging take on the sci-fi genre for middle graders, one that will be enjoyed widely, and hopefully a nice addition or alternative to those reading The Hunger Games. With the added bonus of an alien planet setting!
An epic page-turner full of twists you won't see coming, set on an alien planet where, under the watch of a galaxy-wide TV audience, Ammy Antares and her fellow competitors must complete a challenging quest to gain entry into an elite interplanetary academy.
See you on the Fable app to chat more about this book! (And more!)
Do you know someone who would love to join the I Read A Lot Book Club? Please share this post with them!
I'm in 100% and the book is already on the reserved shelf at the library. Thank you. :)
I love the idea of the book club (and that one is already on my TBR list :-). I tried joining but the link takes me to this message "Sorry, an invitation is required to join a private club."
