Making time to read

Often when I speak to friends, colleagues, library patrons or bookshop customers about books, I get asked: how do you have time to do all that reading? I usually splutter out a response about making time to read, no matter what, but I never really give a constructive answer.

Then I saw this post on Pandora Sykes’ excellent substack, Books + Bits, and it got me thinking about exactly how I find time to read. I know a lot of people aspire to read more, and maybe feel frustrated with themselves about it.

I get it. It’s annoying to see someone do so much of something that you feel you have no time for. I feel similarly riveted and envious when I see people on IG having the time to do their hair so nicely every day or the time to go to pilates so often.

Inspired by the candour in Pandora Sykes’ post, I thought I’d write my own version and share a little more about my reading habits—but as she says, not tips exactly, just transparencies!
